On Saturday as part of Brisbane’s Doomben Cup Day, the Chris Waller-trained Pressday claimed a sharp win in the $150,000 Group 2 Bollinger Champagne Classic (1200m) ahead of a classy field of two-year-old rivals.
Starting the race at $8.50 after being backed in from $11, Pressday ran strongly to the line and finished a comfortable one and a quarter lengths ahead of Tony Gollan’s improving Sequalo colt Spirit Of Boom ($7), while local champ Buffering ($5) was beaten for the first time in his five starts finishing a further one and a half lengths away in third.

The scheduled highlight at the meeting was the $500,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m) where Pressday’s stablemates Metal Bender and Triple Honour ran first and third respectively, while another of Waller’s runners Stryker also secured victory on Saturday in the $125,000 Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m).
