Talented colt Sizzling has produced a typically fast finish to take top honours in today’s Group 3 $175,000 2012 Champagne Classic (1200m).
The Kelso Wood-trained two-year-old jumped slowly and at the final bend was six lengths behind the race leaders.
But in his usual fashion the super fast colt managed to get to the outside and showed remarkable acceleration to run down the leaders and win by a head.
Chris Munce, who has ridden Sizzling in all of his six career starts, said he was pleased with the improvement he had made since winning the Ken Russell Memorial Classic two weeks ago.
“Today was alot more encouraging out of the barriers and believe it or not I think he’s still learning,” Munce said.
“I think he’s still putting it together.”
Now a three-time winner from six starts, the son of Snitzel is being targeted for the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes on June 2 before running in the Group 1 TJ Smith Plate on June 9.
Peter Snowden-trained gelding Academus produced a solid effort to finish runner-up while Gerald Ryan-trained colt Dances On Stars finished third.
