May 5th, 2015

18 talented two-year-olds have been included in nominations for Saturday’s 2015 Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben Racecourse, highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the Autumn Carnival’s notable runners.

Le Chef charged home to win the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1200m) at the beginning of the year and has been included in nominations for a racing return in the 2015 Champagne Classic.

Posting three impressive wins over his four competitive starts so far, Le Chef finished fifth behind the likes of Wicked Intent and Mishani Honcho on debut in late November; taking out each of the XXXX Gold Maiden Plate (1100m) and First National Handicap (1200m) on his way to Magic Millions success.

Wicked Intent is undoubtedly the early standout for new trainer Chris Munce and will contest his third black type race this weekend after being included in 2015 Champagne Classic nominations.

Winning each of his third three starts, including the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1050m) on December 15th, Wicked Intent ran a close second in the Group 3 McLachlan Stakes (1200m) before placing sixth in the Gold Coast M.M. Guineas most recently.

Having reportedly taken well to his time in the paddock and return to work, Wicked Intent will be difficult to beat a Doomben this weekend, where he is undefeated in two starts.

Big Tree broke through for a maiden win at the Gold Coast two weeks ago and is sure to lay a great account for himself in the 2015 Champagne Classic.

Placing fifth in a Doomben minor on debut on April 11th, the Snitzel colt jumped from the gates well in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) on April 15th; immediately taking up the pace and never appearing in doubt when crossing the line a comfortable half-length in the clear.

Pepperano has laid a great account for himself over five competitive starts so far and has been included in 2015 Champagne Classic nominations.

Debuting with an impressive, near three length win in a Doomben minor over 1110m in November, Pepperano placed fourth in the Toowoomba Magic Millions 2.y.o Plate (1050m) before a close second to Le Chef in the Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Returning to the paddock following a luckless performance in the Racing Minister’s Plate (1200m) on the Sunshine Coast, the Court Command filly returned this time for success in a minor over 1000m on April 26th and appears primed for a successful performance on Saturday.

The 2015 Champagne Classic final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
